An apartment for music

An apartment for music is the reworking of an existing North London ground floor one bedroom apartment. Located in a conservation area and with an existing small rear ad-hoc extension of little merit, our clients pushed us to transform and extend their home into new two bedroom property, featuring large open plan living and integrated bespoke joinery throughout. As an end of terrace property it had the unique opportunity to be extended to full width across the rear, which generally was resisted in the local area due to the sense of enclosure side returns can typically impose.

With a North facing rear garden, the project created the challenge of providing additional accommodation to a high quality throughout, whilst at the same time drastically improving the internal daylighting.

Our design response resulted in an internal minimalist white “ribbed shell” within which carefully positioned roof lights were hidden.
